Ball in the family is one of the shows that I watch religiously. I really like LaVar Ball and what he represents and what he is trying to do.
I have watched for two seasons now and with this growing blog, I think weekly recaps of one of my favorite shows is something that needs to be a necessary edition.
Tina’s progress is remarkable and very noticeable. You can see her personality shining through. It is hard to believe that just a short while ago, all she could say was yes and no and now she’s making jokes, walking on her own, and caressing her husband and joking with LaMelo. YOU GO GIRL!!!
Yank is LaVar’s Dad and we can ALL see where LaVar get’s his personality! Yank is super opinionated about sports, basketball and how to properly train just like Lavar. The funniest part of this entire episode is Yank going down the water slide. From being stuck and trying to get going at the top to the bottom when he face was the pure shock of all the water in his face.
Lonzo has finished his first season in the NBA and it was not what he had imagined. He had some great times but also faced some injury and missed part of the season. He is spending his offseason training and getting better to be back for next season at 100%. We now know that he will be playing with LeBron James so this is exciting, he will definitely make it to the finals with King James on his team. Lonzo is also expecting his first child, Zoey Tina Ball this summer with girlfriend Denise. We see this season Lonzo’s attention and affection for Denise grow, from doing extra special planning for her birthday to buying her a new car, Zo has proven he’s in it for the long haul with Denise.
One thing that LaVar said that really stood out to me when talking about Zoey is that she can’t be wild. This is the first celebrity baby that is in the family and things will be different for her. Confidently he says, we will figure it out and she will be okay after that statement.
I kept thinking about this statement and how this relates to Gelo. Gelo’s stealing incident is ordinary and unordinary at the same time. At the most, his crime was a petty theft, no armed robbery, no physical assault. However, it was out of the country and he could have done serious time because it was in China. However, had he done this in the USA and not been a viral sensation, this would have been solved with a lawyer and swept under the rug.
The decision to ultimately pull him out of UCLA and play in Lithuania has its pros and cons. We don’t know how well he would have played in UCLA, he probably would not have been a one and done player but the televised games and the chance for more playing time = more stats would have been beneficial being the ultimate goal is for the NBA. Athletics is a mental sport and being overseas, probably experiences racism plus culture shock plus unfairness (their contract stated they wanted to have the brothers play together and had a minimum time and that did not happen.)
We know that Gelo was not drafted and from the looks of it was not picked up from any team undrafted either because it was just announced today that he is now playing for the JBA. Out of the 3 brothers, Gelo was the one that had the least chance of making it to the NBA and now it seems that may be the case.
I am hopeful for Gelo, I thought he would make it to the league based off of his following and the higher chance of jersey ticket sales but I was wrong. I am interested to see if Gelo will take a larger role running the family business, modeling and brand partnership or any other initiatives. He has his whole life to live so I am looking forward to seeing what direction he takes and what his reaction and thoughts are to not being drafted and next steps.
In a way, because LaMelo is a better ball player than LeAngelo, I feel like they were in a now or never to declare LeAngelo for the draft because next year LaMelo’s stats are going to be substantially better than his and it will show and LaMelo cannot declare for another two years, when he is 18.
LaMelo has already had his fate decided for the next stage for him and that is to be on the JBA and be the branded player for the league. This is awesome for him as he really expressed his desire to be in the USA, his element to play. He wants to be in LA and enjoys the USA playing style best. LaMelo is having a major growth spurt this year and so he has been having some back issues and his focus this year is going to be focused on weight training. I think LaMelo is going to make it to the league, is super talented and will come back stronger than ever. He has the benefit of being the youngest, having great competition with his brothers, and spending the offseason training with Lonzo an NBA player at the tender age of 16.
